BUILDING on the success of ‘Erne Emergency’ – Enniskillen Royal Grammar School’s (ERGS) Junior Drama Club’s audio play, created during the first lockdown – the Year 12 GSCE Drama class has now taken to the airwaves.

‘Janus’, written once again by Mrs. McDowell, takes a light-hearted look at how being caught up in difficult world events affected three people in Enniskillen.

The audio play goes back and forward through time and we meet the characters in their youth, during World War II, and then many years later in their retirement.

Mrs. McDowell, the play’s writer and director, said: “Every once in a while, momentous events happen. Once in a generation, weather, wars, pandemics [become things that affect us all].

“There have been limited opportunities for ERGS’s Drama department to give live performances this year, so during the second lockdown, we used some of our time coming together online to make a story, Janus.

“The cast worked hard during the making of the production and we had a lots of laughs as well. We hope you enjoy this Magical Realism interpretation of the recent past in our lovely county.”

Featuring the voices of 19 GSCE drama students, the play was edited together by budding Year 12 sound designer, Jonathan McBride, and the technical expertise of the school’s Creative and Expressive Arts technician, Ross Brimstone, to create the final product.

Year 14 Performing Arts pianists provided musical accompaniment, with Harry Rees composing an original theme tune, whilst Calum Smith provided musical accompaniment and direction for Kate McGarry’s renditions of old-time classics.

The audio play is available on the school’s app and website (at https://enniskillenroyalgs.com/janus-episode-4-2/).

So tune in and be entertained by the cast of characters as they try to solve the Janus mystery!
