ONE of South Fermanagh’s greatest assets, Killyfole Lough, may soon be leased to Fermanagh District Council by the Water Service, for use by the local community.

The Council would intend to sub-lease the property to Killyfole and District Development Association which has plans for its development.

The initial cost to the Council would be about £25,000.

Members of Fermanagh Council welcomed the decision. Brian McCaffrey said the angling rights were extremely important to the community partnership in Erne East, where there is a lake strategy.

Rodney Connor, the Council’s Chief Executive, said the angling rights were being investigated at present.

However, Stephen Huggett thought the £25,000 was a considerable amount of money for a lease, and he wondered if the local community group had sufficient finds for this.

Mr. Connor said the original asking price was £100,000, and the revised figure was a considerable reduction.

Roy Murray, Chairman of the Association, said his group felt they could make good use of the amenity.

“We would be hopeful to develop something that would be an amenity for the local area and attract people into the area,” he said.
