Multiple arrests were made in relation to a range of crimes following a cross-Border joint agency task force operation focusing on rural crime that took place yesterday evening (May 12).

Officers across Fermanagh worked alongside their An Garda Síochána colleagues, in this latest operation which spanned the Border Districts, with officers from Neighbourhood, Local Policing Teams and Tactical Support Groups.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Over the course of the operation, officers from Neighbourhood and Local Policing Teams and Tactical Support Groups across Fermanagh and Omagh carried out 109 authorised vehicle check points and conducted 78 roadside breath tests – pleased to report all were negative.

"We made eight detections for no insurance – an offence which automatically attracts a fine of £200 and six penalty points - seized two vehicles and issued a number of rectification notices for vehicle defects."

Officers also carried out seven drug searches and made four arrests, two in relation to theft and two in connection with ongoing investigations.

The PSNI spokesman continued: "Our An Garda Síochána colleagues seized suspected cannabis valued at €16,500 and a quantity of suspected stolen property worth approximately €4,000.

"One man was arrested and charged in connection with this seizure and appeared before Cavan District Court this morning. Two people were also arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, with a quantity of cannabis seized in both cases."

Apologising for any temporary delays that were caused by the operation, the PSNI spokesman added: "These operations will continue in the weeks and months ahead as we work together with An Garda Síochána and other partner agencies to prevent cross-Border crime and disrupt the movements and activities of organised crime gangs."
