A MAN in his 50s has died following a one-vehicle road traffic collision in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The single-car collision took place on the Marble Arch Road, Florencecourt at around 3.45am.

The driver, Terry Carty from Garrison, is understood to have been on his way to work at Encirc, Derrylin when the Volkswagen Golf he was driving collided with a tree.

The father of two was a well-known figure around Garrison, with local Sinn Féin Councillor Anthony Feely one of those who would have known Terry and his family well.

He said: “I just want to pass on my sincere condolences to Terry’s wife, Heather; daughters Niamh and Emer; his mother, Bridie, and all the Carty family.

“I would be friendly with the Carty family, and have known them all my life. Terry was a hardworking man and a devoted father and husband.

“It is a heartbreaking time for his family and the local community. My thought and prayers are with all of his family,” said Councillor Feely.

The Funeral Mass for Terry is due to take place on Saturday at 11am in Mary, Queen of Peace Church, Garrison followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so as the cortege proceeds from Terry’s house to the Church on Saturday, and from the Church to the cemetery.
