TWO men who were in a car stopped by police while in the possession of drugs have been handed down fines at Enniskillen Magistrates Court.

Aaron Calders (23), of Kilmore Road, Lisnaskea was convicted of possession of a Class-B drug, namely cannabis, and Brian Shaye McCaffrey (19) of Castlebalfour Road, Lisnaskea was convicted of possession of a Class-A and Class-B drug, namely Methamphetamine and Cannabis.

On April 16, police stopped a car at the entrance to a waterfall near Brookeborough.

Officers noted a smell of cannabis from the car and a search of McCaffrey revealed a grinder and herbal cannabis down his trousers. He apologised to officers following the discovery.

A trace amount of cannabis was also found on Calders, who admitted the drug was for his personal use.

During the search of the car, a bag of powder was also discovered, which turned out to be Methamphetamine, with McCaffrey saying he had "forgot about that".

At Lisnaskea Police Station, McCaffrey made full admissions to the possession.

Fergal Logan, representing both defendants said they both "deeply, deeply regretted" what had happened and they were frank and forthright with police throughout.

Deputy District Judge Anne Marshall fined Calders £100 and McCaffrey £300.
