A MAN who allowed another person to use his vehicle without having insurance in place has been handed penalty points and a fine.

George Graham (59), with an address of Corraglass Road, Cloonaveel, Enniskillen, was convicted of permitting no insurance by Deputy District Judge Anne Marshall at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday.

On October 30, 2019 police stopped a Ford Transit van on Main Street, Bellanaleck heading in the direction of Enniskillen.

The female driver was unable to produce a driving licence, and checks showed that she had been disqualified from driving in 2017, and never reapplied for a licence.

Further checks brought officers to Graham, who stated he had asked the female if she had a licence and she said she had. Graham admitted he never asked to see it and took her word.

He said there was full insurance on the van, and he had taken the woman’s word.
Julie Cooper, representing Graham, said her client had no history of driving without insurance. She said at the time of the incident, Graham along with another man ran a delivery business, and it was this man who recommended the female driver to deliver goods around the Fermanagh area.

Miss Copper said Graham had been wrongly informed by his partner that he had seen the woman’s driving licence.

Judge Marshall told Graham, who appeared via video link from Miss Cooper’s office, that he should have checked for the licence himself, before fining him £150 and issuing six penalty points.
