COUNTY Fermanagh teenagers Odhran Curry and Christopher Hunter have been appointed to serve as Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets for the County of Fermanagh.

Odhran, who is an enthusiastic and highly-capable Cadet Sergeant with the Enniskillen Royal Grammar School Army Cadet Force Detachment, takes on a largely ceremonial year-long role during which he will attend The Viscount Brookeborough, Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for the County of Fermanagh, on major civic occasions.

In recognition of the award, Odhran will be entitled to wear a special insignia on his uniform throughout his year in office.

In the Citation which accompanies the honour, Odhran is described as "a well-respected, loyal and dedicated member of his Detachment"’ and "an excellent role model to new Cadets".

A firm believer in leading by example, Odhran’s personal turnout, bearing and high standards give those younger Cadets something to aspire to, and he regularly offers support and guidance to younger members of his Detachment.

Odhran is also a keen and able sportsman who trains with passion and commitment, ably representing Northern Ireland at ACF National Football Competitions.

As well as working towards his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Odhran also has an appetite for volunteering and the community, most notably fundraising for Autism NI.

Cadet Corporal Christopher Hunter is a highly-dedicated and committed Cadet from the Enniskillen Open Detachment who, according to his award Citation, is "a reliable and confident young man with great communication skills" who "stands out from his peers".

He is always ready to take the lead, setting a strong example to other Cadets. A keen sportsperson, Christopher competes at a high standard in running and rugby.

He has shown exceptional skills and promise at shooting, and has already completed his Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award.

More widely, he has been inspirational in the manner in which he has led ceremonial and remembrance activities and associated research projects.

While the ceremony to mark the conferral of the prestigious award was socially-distanced, the pair are already looking forward to a busy year ahead as Covid restrictions lift.
