A WOMAN who was stopped by police while driving a car that was in dangerous condition told them she did not realise it was as bad as they were saying.

Lauren Williamson (21), of Cornmill, Bellanaleck, was stopped on November 10, 2019, at Belmore Street, Enniskillen while she was driving a Volkswagen Golf.

On inspection of the car by officers, they found two nearside tyres were defective, while they also noted a modified suspension.

Williamson told officers: "I didn't realise it was that bad."

The car was seized for inspection, and on November 11, an examination was carried out which found some dangerous defects to the suspension, a broken exhaust, loose radiator and battery, and a defective handbrake.

Williamson was cautioned again, repeating that she did not realise how bad the condition of the car was.

Michelle McVeigh, representing Williamson, told the court it was the suspension that brought the car to police attention, not the manner of her driving, and that she had no mechanical experience and was not aware of the problems.

Williamson was given credit for her early plea by District Judge Steven Keown, who fined her £300 and handed down three penalty points for the charges of three defective tyres and using a vehicle in dangerous condition.
