LAST Saturday, August 14, Fivemiletown Royal British Legion (RBL) dedicated a new commemorative chair to mark the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Royal British Legion.

The chair was unveiled by 97-year-old Ian Small, Fivemiletown RBL branch’s oldest member, who served in the Home Guard and at RAF Castle Archdale during the Second World War.

The event began with an Act of Remembrance, with The Last Post being played by Noel Trimble, and a lament by piper Charlie McClintock.

Victor Wilson laid a wreath on behalf of Fivemiletown RBL Branch. The chair is located in the Garden of Remembrance at the front of Fivemiletown RBL hall and was dedicated in memory of Edward B. Fearis, a long-standing member of Fivemiletown RBL who recently passed away.

The event was attended by a large turnout of members who went on to have a celebration BBQ in the hall.

An evening of great craic and comradeship followed in the club premises.

Branch Chairman, Robert Carson, thanked all involved in the project and looked forward to the 100th anniversary of Fivemiletown RBL branch in 2023.
