A LISNASKEA man has been returned to the Crown Court to face trial for a series of indecent assaults on women in the 1980s.

Gerard Augustine Quaile (55), with an address of Sylvan Hill, Lisnaskea, is charged with nine counts of indecent assault against three different women.

The assaults are alleged to have taken place on one woman between July 16, 1982 and July 16, 1984.

Another assault is said to have taken place between February 22, 1984 and February 22, 1986.

A further three assaults against a third woman are alleged to have taken place between July 19, 1983 and July 19, 1985.

Appearing at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday, Quaile did not object to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

The Public Prosecution Service told the court there was a case to answer, with Deputy District Judge Greg McCourt agreeing.

Quaile replied “No” when asked if he wanted to give evidence, call witnesses or tender statements during the brief hearing.

The trial was adjourned until September 30 when Quaile, who was released on bail of £500, will appear at Dungannon Crown Court for arraignment.

He is the second person to be charged with historical child abuse stemming from an investigation by The Impartial Reporter.
