THE 50th birthday celebrations were both a success on and off the pitch for St. Patrick’s, Donagh in recent weeks.

Over the Hallowe’en weekend, the club held a number of events to commemorate the establishment of the club back in 1971, and they were well attended and enjoyable nights according to club Chairman, Ciaran McMahon.

“It all went to plan, thankfully, and the weather held out, so that was good.

“Over the weekend, on the Saturday night we had a memorabilia night and a reminiscent night, which talked through the whole history of the club.

“People could contribute with their memories of how the club would have been from its set up. That was a well attended and enjoyable night.

“On the Sunday, we had a Dads and Lads group from bridge and Aghadrumsee come down and make up a bit of a game, and it was played in good spirits, and then we had the fireworks display after that.”

The following week, the club claimed the Junior Championship with a thrilling win over neighbours, Newtownbutler.

And Ciaran says footballing success has been something they hoped for in their 50th year: “It’s been in our minds all year. From a footballing point of view, we wanted to make it a year of celebrations and we wanted it to be a successful year, and all we were competing in, we wanted to win, because it was a milestone year for the club.

“It was about creating good memories, and Junior Championship was the final piece of the jigsaw.”

The celebrations are not over as on November 20, a documentary will be shown in the clubhouse, with people telling their memories of the foundation of the club.
