A Newtownbutler man has been fined for possession of cannabis.

On October 30 last, police were operating a vehicle checkpoint in Tamlaght.

Officers stopped an Audi A8 and spoke to Killian Lee McMackin (34), with an address of Mill Hill Road, Newtownbutler.

The officers could detect a smell of cannabis from within the car, and a search of the vehicle located cannabis joints.

McMackin was arrested but made no reply; however, during interview, he admitted possession of the joints.

His barrister, Michael Boyd, said his client made admissions straight away.

He said McMackin's appearance in court predates his last conviction and asked the court to deal with him by way of financial penalty.

McMackin was fined £200 by District Judge Steven Keown.
