Ballinamallard have announced the return of former captain Mark Stafford to the club.

After a successful time with Linfield, the centre half moved to Glenavon before returning to the club he helped win the Championship in 2012.

Speaking about the player who came through the youth ranks at Ballinamallard, manager Harry McConkey said: "I'm delighted to secure the services of former skipper Mark Stafford.

"It's great to have secured Mark's signature. He will give the squad another natural leader in the changing room and on the pitch. He is a very experienced and quality central defender.

"I know from our talks both last summer and more recently that Mark is still hungry for success. He is determined to give the Mallards his very best as we enter the run in of a very competitive season.

"All being well Mark will train with us Thursday night and will come into the squad for Saturday's game away to Ballyclare Comrades."

On his return to Ballinamallard, Stafford said he is excited to be back.

"Although I've been away for a few years I kept in close contact with many around the club and a close watch on their results and performances every week. My brother continues to be a dedicated Mallards supporter.

"I'm very aware that I'll be going into a changing room with different personnel, both players and staff. I know I'll have to earn their respect and confidence.

"I wouldn't be coming back if I didn't think I had something to offer the club, I have a focus for the Mallards and hope I can help them again push for promotion to the Premiership."
