Belfast-based Fermanagh man Eddie Roofe has donated a total of £18,836.50 to Sands Northern Ireland following the success of his Peaks for Peter challenge.

Back in the summer of 2021, in just over seven days, Eddie climbed 38,500ft – a height close to 1.5 Mount Everests – covering a total distance of 153 miles, the equivalent of just under six marathons, as he completed his challenge to scale the highest peaks in Ireland, and in doing so raised a significant amount of money for Sands NI in memory of his late son, Peter.

Sands Northern Ireland is part of Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity. Sands operates throughout the UK, supporting anyone affected by the death of a baby, working to improve the care bereaved parents receive, and promoting research and working closely with many different organisations to reduce the loss of babies’ lives.

Accompanied by friends and family, Eddie completed the Peaks for Peter challenge on Sunday, August 1, by climbing the highest peak in his home county of Fermanagh – Cuilcagh Mountain.
