A man who stole lorry batteries from a business in Enniskillen has received a suspended sentence.

Between eight and 10 batteries were taken from M. K. Trucks on May 20, 2021, and were valued at around £500.

Charles Sweeney (26), with an address of Bramble Rise, Cavan, appeared in Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday following the execution of a warrant.

The court heard on May 20, police received a report of a theft at the business on the Tempo Road by a member of staff.

They reported that a Ford Transit van entered the premises at around 11.25am and took the lorry batteries.

Police intercepted the van at around 12pm and spoke to the male, who was identified as Sweeney, and they also discovered the lorry batteries.

Michael Fahy, solicitor for Sweeney, told the court his client had travelled a considerable distance to resolve the matter, but accepted it would have been better if he had dealt with it alongside his partner, who was a co-accused in the case.

Mr. Fahy said Sweeney's mother had passed away and he felt it was time to sort the matter out.

He said all goods were recovered, and asked for Sweeney to be dealt with in a similar fashion to his partner.

Sweeney was handed a two-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, by District Judge Steven Keown.
