The Fermanagh Senior hurlers enjoyed a night of celebration at Mahon’s Hotel on Saturday as they received their Lory Meagher Cup winners medals following their victory in the competition last season.

The night was a big hit, and Manager Joe Baldwin felt it was important to mark the occasion, although he stresses that everybody is now keen to push on for success this year.

‘Celebrated’

“The players deserved their medals – they won a national title in Croke Park, and that had to be celebrated, but there certainly was an air in the room that this is done and it is time to push on now.

“There is a real belief there that we will push on and, hopefully in 12 months’ time, we will be back in a venue to get presented with another medal,” he said.

Journalist Declan Bogue was MC for the night, while Antrim’s Neil McManus was the special guest and presented the players with their medals.

‘Very complimentary’

“I just want to thank Declan and Neil. Neil was very complimentary of Fermanagh, and it was great to have him and his wife, Aileen, there for the night, and Declan was a brilliant MC.

“Also John Duffy gave a very powerful speech,” added the Erne boss.

And those in attendance on the night were also kept entertained by forward Tom Keenan, who did a running commentary on the medal presentation.

“It is hard to explain just what that man brings to the group – he is absolutely hilarious,” laughed Baldwin.

“It goes to show the importance of having characters about the place. We can’t all be straight-laced and he made the night for a lot of people. He had everybody in stitches.”
