THE NUMBERS of the special police, Class B, have now so increased that the men will not be asked to sit up more than one night in the week.

But there are over 100 men yet to come in.

Enniskillen has done badly in this matter.

It has produced no more than the village of Lisbellaw.

Shame on Enniskillen!

Surprising

The preparation of the list which we referred to in our last produced the surprising fact that nearly 200 men who might have joined the B force have not done so, and they, by their negligence and abstention, are putting severer work on others.

If all those turned out who should have done so, there would be need only for sitting up one night within a fortnight.

The list, when published, will occasion surprise by showing that many who have valuable properties to protect apparently care nothing about protecting their property – and if anything should happen to such premises, the B men are not likely to bestir themselves, for, they say, if owners will not trouble themselves about their own property, why should other people care?

Only one bank in the town thinks it has anything to protect.

Duty

It is the duty of every man in health under 60 years of age, except there be some special circumstance involved, to join this government branch for the protection of life and home.

It is by the patrols of the B class over the county that raids are averted and people are enabled to sleep securely at night; yet that sleep should not be secured by shirkers at the expense of the sleep of loyal men who volunteer their services for the good of the community.
