Do you have some interesting tales and memories of life in County Fermanagh through the years?

Maybe you or a family member used to be a fisherman operating on the lough, or you may have tales and memories of life on the one of Lough Erne’s many islands?

If so, the Lough Erne Landscape Partnership (LELP) invites you to join them on March 23 to share your stories, memories, experiences and tales of life in Fermanagh throughout the years.

Five broad themes have been established with which LELP hope to weave as many interesting tales and yarns as possible. They are:

• Making a living: Farming, fishing and industry.

• Domestic life: Food, housing, hearth, family, community, gender roles and childhood.

• Culture and folklore: Music, entertainment/traditions, place-names and place-lore (dindshenchas).

• Hands of power: Elites, War, Imprisonment, State Institutions and Government.

• The Craic: Fermanagh fancy, dialectic, words and humorous stories.

A ‘Memory map’

To further support the event, LELP is also providing a digitisation service to capture your story-related photos, and with your permission, these will also go toward enriching a final ‘Memory Map’, filling in a collective gathering of information.

This is your chance to contribute towards the development of a dynamic and interactive ‘Memory Map’, showcasing the rich and unique cultural heritage of the Erne for generations to come.

LELP is running an appointment system on the day, but if you would like to book a slot, email LELP Heritage Officer, Dr. Heather Montgomery, at her address at h.a.montgomery@qub.ac.uk, or call her at 0785 725 1035.

This event is supported through funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Community Foundation Northern Ireland.

It will be delivered in collaboration with the Centre for Community Archaeology and the Centre for Data Digitisation and Analysis at Queen’s University Belfast.
