Like many parades, Covid-19 hit Derrygonnelly’s St. Patrick’s celebrations in recent years, but the fun was back with a bang this year as young and old alike took to the streets in all types of floats, vehicles and costumes.

The floats, walkers, tractors, vehicles and fabulous children who took part in the parade despite the wet weather made an enormous effort and were absolutely fantastic on the day.

The organisers thanked the large crowd of spectators who came out and stood in the rain to support those taking part.

Alan Taylor led the parade as St. Patrick, before the Dominican Academy Irish Dancers and the Party Bees entertained the crowds.

There was music by Sean Higgins as well as face painting and plenty of ice cream on offer.

A special thanks went to Margaret Doogan for all the preparation behind the scenes and there is already the ambition to make next year’s parade bigger and better.

A number of prizes were also handed out on the day, with the Best Float title going to Jackie Cassidy and Crew; Best Family Float to Patrick Gilroy Garden Centre; Best Dressed Boy to Tiernan Dundas; while Megan Cassidy picked up Best Dressed Girl. The Best Animal trophy was claimed by owner Katie McGovern.
