Hollywood actress Jennifer Grey has revealed that she still thinks about the 1987 Fermanagh car crash that claimed the lives of two women outside Enniskillen.

Grey, best known for her role in Dirty Dancing was a passenger when actor Matthew Broderick crashed his rented car in August 1987 when it veered onto the other side of Tempo Road at Pubble and crashed into another car killing Mrs. Margaret Doherty (63) and her daughter Mrs. Anna Gallagher (28).

The actress has been promoting her new memoir and in interviews with various American publications she has reflected on the accident.

Speaking to the New York Times about the accident, Ms Grey said: “We were so young. And there’s not a week that goes by that I don’t think about it. That I don’t think about the families. That I don’t think about Matthew. It’s just in me. It’s part of my topographical map, the landscape of my life.”

Grey suffered minor injuries in the accident and has received surgery on her spine as a result of the crash.

She reflected further on the incident in an interview with People magazine. She said: “There was some very, very heavy stuff that went down that changed my life forever and there was no one to blame. And many people might think that I'm here to heal some long held secret.

She continued: “None of that, it's just we had an accident. It was a pure and simple accident that was tragic. And it had very serious traumatic lasting effects on, I'm sure, Matthew and the family of the other women and me."

Following the crash, Mr.Broderick was convicted with the charge of careless driving and fined; public awareness of the incident resurfaced after Broderick appeared in a Superbowl commercial for motor company Honda in 2012.

Mr. Martin Doherty, son and brother of the deceased spoke to The Impartial Reporter at the time of the commercial and said: “I suppose it wasn't the greatest choice of drivers knowing his past. I suppose at the end of the day it was years ago. I have forgiven what he had done. I mentioned that at the time. I have always said that an accident happened.”
