A woman who became irate with police officers following her arrest has been convicted of being in charge of a vehicle with excess alcohol in her breath and disorderly behaviour.

Police were called to a report of a disturbance in Beechhill, Enniskillen on February 10. When they arrived, they observed a BMW parked at a footpath with its bumper partially off.

Officers spoke to Rebecca McManus (22), of Drumbeg, Enniskillen, who was sitting in the driver's seat of the car.

It was heard in court that she was slurring her words and there was a smell of intoxicating liquor. McManus failed a preliminary breath test and was arrested.

While being escorted to the police car, she became irate, shouting profanities at the officers such as: "You're a f**king p***k" and "I'll kick your f**king head in".

As well as shouting profanities, she asked the officers what she had done.

After being brought to Omagh, McManus gave an evidential reading of 59mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

McManus' solicitor, Michael Fahy, told Enniskillen Magistrates Court that his client was adamant there were no keys in the car, and that the car was not even roadworthy.

He pointed out that if McManus had acted differently to the police officers, she would not be facing the charge of disorderly behaviour.

Mr. Fahy said McManus had no record of relevance and entered a guilty plea at an early opportunity, and added that she accepted it was primarily because of her behaviour that she was before the courts.

McManus was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £350.
