In 2002, Her Majesty The Queen visited the village of Ballinamallard as part of her three-day tour of Northern Ireland to mark her Golden Jubilee.

During the visit, she was accompanied by her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, who officially opened the new bridge that linked the Fisher's Engineering factory, now known as Severfield, to its car park.

Now, 20 years on, the community of Ballinamallard is celebrating The Queen's 70-year reign, whilst also remembering her historic visit to the village, with a Platinum Jubilee party in the Severfield Car Park.

The Chairman of the Ballinamallard Jubilee Party's organising committee, Henry Robinson, said: "The Queen was here in 2002 for her Golden Jubilee, so we thought it was appropriate to again celebrate her Platinum Jubilee."

The Ballinamallard Jubilee Party will take place on Sunday, June 5, starting with an open air community service of thanksgiving for the life of The Queen at 11am.

During the service, the Ballinamallard Jubilee Children's Choir will perform. There is currently a call-out for primary school-aged children from Ballinamallard and the surrounding areas to take part.

Practices began yesterday evening (Wednesday, May 18), with two more taking place on May 25 and June 1, from 4.30pm to 5pm in the Methodist Church Hall in Ballinamallard. The choir is being lead by Lynsey McCrea.

Following the service, there will be a barbecue as part of The Big Lunch community initiative.

Other activities on the day include a fancy dress competition, where children are being encouraged to dress up as kings and queens – with a prize for the best-dressed – as well as face-painting fun, garden games and more.

The celebrations in Ballinamallard are supported by Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.
