Plenty of locals will be getting sandwiches and fine china out next week to celebrate The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, but one local man will be pulling his trainers on and running 70 miles to raise funds for his local football club.

Tom Campbell (54), from Fivemiletown, will be running '70 miles for 70 years' to raise money for Fivemiletown United Football Club – an organisation close to his heart.

Speaking to The Impartial Reporter, Tom said: "I've run marathons and that before, and I've ran to raise money for football clubs, schools and church halls and things.

"All money raised will go to Fivemiletown Football Club, where I am a coach. I coach the kids – the three- to six-year-olds – who are the future stars."

The route will be ran around Fivemiletown and will be done over a few days but it will be ran over a few days during the Jubilee bank holidays celebrations.

The route will encompass parts of the Creevehill Road, the Clabby Road, the Clogher Road and the Belfast Road.

Tom admitted that "parts of it will be tight going." He still plays some football and is hopeful that his team mates may join him for a leg of his run.

"I still play and I've put it out to the boys I play with, and any others."

As well as his involvement with the football club, Tom is involved with many different aspects of community life.

Concluding, Tom added: "It is going to be a big effort, so I hope it will be supported."
