A driver of a BMW stopped by police in Bellanaleck was an unaccompanied L driver and had no L plates displayed.

Police observed the car with two males on August 2, 2021, one of whom was known to them.

They spoke to Daniel McCordick (28), of Doagh Road, Derrygonnelly, who was in the driver's seat. He only had a provisional licence and the person in the passenger seat was not a suitable adult to supervise.

Myles McManus, representing McCordick, pointed out to the court that there were four people in the car including McCordick's partner who was in the rear of the car. She was a qualified driver but the defendant was under the misapprehension that this was OK and he was supervised.

He also said the L plates had fallen off the window of the car and were in the vehicle.

Mr. McManus said McCordick had a significant record but there had been some "tailing off" in offending since 2016.

McCordick is currently disqualified from driving until August 2022 and Mr. McManus asked the court not to interfere with that ban.

However, it was not heeded with District Judge Steven Keown handing McCordick a four-month disqualification and £200 in fines for being an unaccompanied L driver and having no L plates displayed.
