THERE was a great sense of community spirit in Derrygonnelly as the community came together to raise funds for the village’s Christmas lights.
The cross-community event, held on June 18, was well supported by all as they enjoyed all of the offerings provided by the community, raising £3,390 toward the Derrygonnelly Christmas lights fund.
Speaking on behalf of Derrygonnelly District Community Partnership, James Graydon-Rhodes said: “Our opening and ribbon-cutting was by Molly Hoy and Taylia McCauley, who themselves raised £4,000 for The Little Princess Trust by cutting their hair.”
Detailing some of the attractions at the market, James said: “The event had 24 craft stalls and 19 car boots, a bouncy castle, face painting, a lucky dip, children’s temporary tattoos and nail painting.”
Noting that this was the first large event held for the village since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, James said: “This was Derrygonnelly’s first big event since Covid-19, seeing family and friends together [again].”
With fundraising for the Christmas lights to continue, James added: “The Partnership is now planning a spooky Hallowe’en parade and disco, as well as a Christmas craft and food market on December 10.
