The death has taken place of Mrs. Christina Wilson, also fondly known as Chris or Chrissie at her home, Garvary Hill, at the age of 91 years.

Chris was born in Drumquin, Co. Tyrone on May 8, 1931. Her parents were Annie and Gibson Nethery and she was the second oldest in the family of four girls. Chris shared fond childhood memories of her time helping her dad on the family farm with her late sisters, Betty, Gladys and Eileen.

When Chris left school she worked in Bangor and a few years later moved to Garvary, Enniskillen, to work in a local shop. During this time she met her future husband Robert Wilson, a well known local farmer at a social gathering. They enjoyed 14 happy years of marriage.

Sadly Robert passed away in April 1977 at the young age of 42, leaving Chris to bring up a young family of six girls: Anne, Audrey, Roberta, Gwen, Joan and Dorothy and their baby son Robert. Despite this tragedy Chris’s strength and determination enabled her to provide a caring, loving and happy home for her children. She was a devoted and hard working mother and always very appreciative of the support she received from family and friends.

Chris had a strong Christian faith and regularly attended Garvary Parish Church. She was a member of the choir for many years and received many compliments about her beautiful singing. She was a loyal member of the Mothers Union and enjoyed attending their annual outings.

Family life was very important to Chris. She was a kind and thoughtful granny of 15 grandchildren and immensely proud of them all. She looked forward to family gatherings and remembered everyone’s birthday.

Her hobbies included reading, watching quiz shows and TV soaps, knitting for different charities and gardening. Chris as also able to pursue her interest in travelling once the children got older and had a particular fondness for the North Coast. She had an amazing memory for dates and telephone numbers and could recite the alphabet backwards.

Chris has a friendly, jovial and pleasant personality. She lived most of her life independently and visitors were always warmly welcome with a cup of tea.

In her latter years she attended the Tempo Road Day Centre and the Cathedral Tuesday Club and she made many valuable friendships. During the pandemic Chris missed this social contact but always ensure she kept in touch with family and friends by regular phone calls.

In January 2021, Chris received a poor prognosis and was attentively cared for at home by her family and carers. Despite Chris’s declining health she showed great resilience and maintainer her strong faith and humour. Visits from family, friends and clergy, notably Dean Hall, brought great pleasure and comfort.

Chris surpassed and bewildered medical professionals by celebrating two further birthdays!

Chris will be lovingly remembered by her family and everyone that knew her.
