A young Kesh man has received penalty points and a fine after failing to produce his licence, and having a defective tyre on his car.

It was heard at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday that police were on mobile patrol on the Brownhill Link Road, Irvinestown, on June 17, 2021, when they stopped a car.

They spoke with the driver – Ethan McLoughlin (20), with an address of Camplagh Road, Kesh – and on inspection of the car they observed one of the tyres was defective.

McLoughlin was issued with a fixed penalty notice and ordered to produce his licence, but on November 25 last, police checks on their system showed there was no record of it being produced.

Tommy Owens, a solicitor for McLoughlin, told the court that his client was not aware of the defective tyre as it was on the inside.

Concerning failing to produce his licence, Mr. Owens said McLoughlin “simply forgot”, as he was working a lot at the time.

Mr. Owens added that McLoughlin’s licence was important to him for work, and asked the court to be as lenient as possible.

For failing to produce his driving licence and the defective tyre, Deputy District Judge John Rea handed McLoughlin three penalty points, and a total of £200 in fines.
