Presented by Arts Over Borders, the festival – which pays homage to novelist, playwright and poet Samuel Beckett through arts and literary events based on his works and life – runs from today, Thursday, July 21 to next Monday, July 25.

The festival features an eclectic range of events at various venues over the course of the festival weekend. Tickets for the Beckett Festival can be purchased on the Ardhowen Theatre website, and customers can avail of a special anniversary Centenary ticket, covering 10 events, by contacting the Box Office at 028 6632 5440.

The theatre’s season of outdoor theatre concludes with an original adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s classic, ‘Jane Eyre’ from Heartbreak Productions.

This carnival spectacular follows our favourite Victorian heroine through her many ordeals, as she escapes from her aunt’s house, her school, the fire, the moors, and finally finds safety with her true love, Mr. Rochester.

Described as harrowing at times and heart-warming at others, this romantic tale is suitable for 10 years upwards. Performances take place on Friday, July 22 at 7.30pm at Fermanagh Lakeland Forum, and Saturday, July 23 at 7.30pm at the Bawnacre Centre.

Performances

Note that the performances will go ahead regardless of the weather; tickets must be booked in advance via the website or box office – no cash sales at performance sites – and attendees should bring their own low-back chair, rug or picnic, and dress appropriately for the weather.

To comedy now, and Donegal Comedian Conal Gallen is taking to the Ardhowen stage once again next Wednesday, July 27 and Thursday, July 28 with what promises to be a night filled with laughter, craic and song.

For more than 30 years, Conal has been entertaining audiences across the world, and is sure to entertain with his well-honed comic skills.

Back to music now, and The Two Five Ones performed in the Ardhowen Theatre’s livestream series during the tome of Covid restrictions, and are delighted to be returning to a live audience in the Gallery Bar next Friday, July 29 at 9pm.

The Jazz duo formed in 2016, consisting of Dara MacGabhann on vocals and Andy Hogg on guitar and vocals, both of whom have enjoyed successful musical careers prior to their partnership.

Original compositions

The Two Five One’s shows are packed with Jazz and Blues classics from the 1920s through to the 1950s and beyond, and even feature some original compositions of the same genre.

Now to the Ardhowen’s Summer Workshops, which continue with Comic Art with Kev F on Friday, July 22 at 10am and 1pm, and a week-long Rock School and Songwriting Camp for musical teens, tutored by professional musicians, headed up by Kila’s Dee Armstrong, running from Monday, August 8 to Friday, August 12.
