Police calling at a man's house in Lisnaskea found him at a table with 4.2g of cocaine, a court has heard.

On October 1, 2021, police searched the house of Sean Dermott Symington (36), of Carrowshee Park, Lisnaskea.

When they entered the property, they observed Symington at a table, Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday.

Symington appeared to be fiddling with an object under the table and attempting to hide it.

This was revealed to be a jar which contained white powder, which after analysis came back as 4.2g of cocaine.

When asked if there was anything else he would like to hand over to the police, Symington walked to his bedroom and returned with a grinder which had herbal cannabis in it.

The court heard from Symington's solicitor, Michael Fahy, that Symington was on the final day of a suspended sentence when the search took place.

He stressed that the defendant indicated the drugs were for his personal use.

Mr. Fahy said his client was known to the police, and it was no surprise that they decided to check on him.

Since the matter, Mr. Fahy said Symington has stated he has stopped taking drugs, and had gained employment in Dublin, adding that if he is true to his word, Symington should not come back before the court.

Mr. Fahy added that Symington has made significant changes to his life since the incident, and realised he was going down the wrong path by taking drugs.

Deputy District Judge John Rea felt the previous suspended sentence had achieved its objectives, and decided to impose another one on Symington.

For possession of Class-A and Class-B drugs, Symington received a three-month sentence, suspended for two years.
