MLAs from Fermanagh and South Tyrone recently joined with the McDonald’s Enniskillen restaurant for a litter clean-up event at Enniskillen’s Round O, working together to help support the wider community.

The ‘30 Parks In 30 Days’ campaign saw McDonald’s employees undertake more than 30 litter clean-ups in parks and nature areas across Northern Ireland (NI) throughout the 30 days of June.

Led by the seven local franchisees across the McDonald’s estate of 34 restaurants in NI, the clean-up events were supported by local councils, elected representatives and football clubs.

Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLAs Jemma Dolan (SF) and Deborah Erskine (DUP) were happy to help support the local clean-up.

Miss Dolan said: “I was thrilled to be invited to the McDonald’s litter pick-up at Enniskillen’s Round O. Not only was it a good opportunity to get out and about at one of our local beauty spots, it was also a great opportunity to engage with our local McDonald’s team, whilst also doing our bit for the environment.

“I must say, the Fermanagh and Omagh District Council staff had the area well cleared up, but it is always nice to give a helping hand.”

Mrs. Erskine said: “Looking after the environment is so vitally important and particularly so, given an area of outstanding beauty such as Fermanagh. We should all want to protect the environment, keep areas clean and tidy so that we can preserve it for future generations.

“I want to commend McDonald’s staff. It was a pleasure to join with them in Enniskillen, but furthermore, I want to praise our local Council team who do this job every day.”

David Walker, Franchisee of the McDonald’s Enniskillen restaurant, said: “At McDonald’s, we take our environmental responsibilities extremely seriously. We very much share our customers’ and stakeholders’ disappointment and frustration at seeing litter discarded carelessly in parks, on paths and by the sides of roads.

“Whilst our employees regularly undertake voluntary litter clean-ups in Enniskillen and the surrounding areas, this collaborative ‘30 Parks in 30 Days’ campaign between our restaurants and local communities reinforces our strong commitment of our wider business to tackling litter right across Northern Ireland.”
