Following the extreme heat that Fermanagh has experienced recently, the Met Office has today (Friday) issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms from Sunday for all of Northern Ireland.

The warning is in place from 12pm on Sunday, August 14 until 6pm on Monday, August 15.

Forecasting the extreme weather, a Met Office spokesperson said: "While some places stay dry, hit-and-miss thunderstorms will develop Sunday and Sunday night, and may bring disruption in places.

The spokesperson also advised of the impact of extreme weather.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to bus services."

They continued: "Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures and there is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."
