August, 2002: Some 360 Fermanagh young people completed a six-week-long summer scheme recently with a ceremony held in Share Holiday Village.

The summer scheme was funded by the New Opportunities Fund to provide children with educational, recreational and social activities out of school hours.

Children from southwest Fermanagh spent five-day weeks canoeing, dinghy sailing, windsurfing, making films and producing drama.

The scheme was designed to give those who live in rural areas the opportunity to participate in these summer activities.

In Fermanagh, many summer events for young people are based in Enniskillen and public transport from rural areas is both costly and infrequent.

Parents and friends gathered in the Arts Arena to see the participants collect their certificates for involvement.

Those present saw premieres of production from the Film Making and Animation course, and the Black Light Theatre and Film Production course.

They could watch how Share Centre, through Summer Scheme Co-Ordinator, Chris Scott, had made use of grant funding to benefit children in the local community.
