A faulty headlight has resulted in a drunk driver being disqualified from driving.

On July 31, police were on mobile patrol of the Derrylin Road area of Enniskillen when they observed a car with a faulty headlight in Lisgoole Park.

It stopped and Natasa Ermay (43), of Lisgoole Park, Enniskillen, got out of the car.

There was a strong smell of alcohol, she appeared unsteady on her feet, and her speech was slurred, Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday.

Ermay was arrested and gave an evidential reading of 56mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

Her solicitor, Gary Black, pointed out to the court that it was the headlight and no part of her driving which drew police attention. He said Ermay had finished work at 11pm and went socialising with friends.

Initially, he said, Ermay had intended to find other means of getting home, but found herself in town by herself and a taxi not available for another hour, so she took the "foolish decision" to drive the short distance to her home.

Mr. Black added that Ermay's licence was vital to her, as she travelled 30 minutes to and from work and without it she would no longer be able to continue with her work.

However, Ermay was convicted of driving with excess alcohol in her breath and was banned from driving for one year and fined £200.
