Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will illuminate Enniskillen Castle on selected dates throughout the month of October.

On Saturday, October 1, it will be illuminated in purple in recognition of International Day of Older Persons and to mark the beginning of Positive Ageing Month.

The castle will be illuminated in pink on Sunday, October 2 in recognition of Organ Donation Week which aims to build awareness of organ donation and the difference it can make to so many people.

October is Purple Flag Month and in recognition of Enniskillen being awarded the Purple Flag, the castle will be illuminated in purple on Friday, October 7.

On Saturday, October 8, Enniskillen Castle will be illuminated in red in support of Dyslexia Awareness Month which takes place during October. The aim of Dyslexia Awareness Month is to raise awareness and understanding of Dyslexia and the challenges those living with dyslexia encounter.

In recognition of Developmental Language Disorder Day, the castle will be illuminated in purple on Friday, October 14. Developmental Language Disorder is a diagnosis given to a person who has difficulty talking and / or understanding language.

On Saturday, October 15, Enniskillen Castle will be illuminated in pink to mark the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week. The campaign aims to bring together people from the baby loss community and beyond to raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss.

Parenting Week, an annual campaign to highlight the important role parents play in their children’s lives, takes place from October 17 to 21 and, in recognition of this, the building will be illuminated in purple on Monday, October 17.

The castle will be illuminated in red on Tuesday, October 18 in recognition of Anti-Slavery Day in Northern Ireland.

On Wednesday, October 19, it will be illuminated in green in recognition of Recycle Awareness Week. This year the theme is ‘Let’s Get Real’ and the aim is to challenge perceptions and myths around recycling and target contamination to improve recycling behaviours.

Black History Month takes place during October and, in recognition of this, Enniskillen Castle will be illuminated in red on Friday, October 21.

On Tuesday, October 25, Enniskillen Castle will be illuminated in yellow to mark the launch of a new Aware NI Support Group in the Aisling Centre in Enniskillen.
