A VILLAGE orderly who has kept Maguiresbridge clean and tidy for the past 14 years has finally hung up his street brush.

Jimmy Hicks has retired from Fermanagh Council after what the residents of the village and surrounding area have described as “faithful service” to the community.

The local residents have paid tribute to Jimmy by presenting him with a watch and wallet of notes. Jimmy took over the job in June, 1978, after the retirement of the late Richard Whitley.

A local resident said: “Jimmy was a very friendly and helpful man who had a smile and chat for everyone. His presence will be badly missed on the street. His dedication to his work could be seen by everyone who passed through the village. This work entailed keeping clean all the area.”
