The Enniskillen Royal British Legion recently hosted an awards night for volunteers who collect money as part of the Poppy Appeal.

Collectors received their certificates, with some receiving bars and medals from Viscount Brookeborough, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant for County Fermanagh.

A range of certificates and awards for 57 of the collectors were given out including certificates marking five years of voluntary service right up one marking 50 years of voluntary service. Two of those who received long service certificates were David Johnson (45 years) and Dennis Gault (50 years).

Not all of those who received certificates were present but they will receive their certificate at a later date.

David Brown, Poppy Appeal Organiser for the Enniskillen area expressed pride in the Enniskillen area’s fundraising efforts for the Poppy Appeal. He said: “Last year the Enniskillen area collected £27,000, we cover a large area and when we got information from head office we were told we had taken three per cent of the Northern Ireland total and 0.5 per cent of national title.”
