NI Water has confirmed that it has planned cleaning a sewer to remove a blockage which is causing a manhole at the Queen Elizabeth Road, Enniskillen to overflow during heavy rainfall.

The issue was prevalent earlier this week following heavy rainfall last Sunday evening (October 16) into Monday morning (October 17), causing flooding on the area of the road near the affected manhole.

A NI Water spokesperson said: “NI Water is aware of a manhole on Queen Elizabeth Road, Enniskillen, which occasionally blocks and overflows during periods of heavy rainfall.

“This has primarily been as a result of a build up of wipes, rags and other items. This is why it is important to flush only ‘the three Ps’: pee, poo and paper.

“Everything else must be put in the bin, or it can cause unnecessary blockages in our sewers and result in out-of-sewer flooding.

“NI Water has planned a clean through of this sewer which will remove the latest blockage. This will be done as soon as the necessary traffic management approvals are in place.

“NI Water would like to thank customers for their patience while we resolve this matter.”
