An 'R' driver who was detected travelling 31mph over the speed limit has been banned from driving for a month.

Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday that police at the A4 Belfast Road detected a car travelling at 76mph on June 18.

The car was being driven by Ethan Albert Daley (18), with an address of Springfield Road, Enniskillen, who was a restricted driver, the court heard. Due to this, he should not have been travelling faster than 45mph.

With three penalty points already on his licence, his solicitor told the court that the loss of his licence would have a significant impact on Daley's employment prospects.

The solicitor said that on the day in question, Daley was heading to Belfast and did not realise his speed. He added that the defendant did not seek to avoid responsibility for the incident either.

Referring to the three points already on Daley's licence, his solicitor said Daley had been on a speed awareness course, but it had cut off and he failed to follow up with it.

Deputy District Judge Laura Ievers told Daley despite his accepting responsibility it caused the court "no end of concern" that he was travelling so far over the speed limit.

She hoped that Daley will have learned his lesson from this, and handed down the one-month driving ban and £100 fine.
