Lisnaskea Household Recycling Centre will be closed temporarily for approximately six months as Fermanagh and Omagh District Council commences significant improvement and modernisation works at the site to support increased recycling and re-use within the district.

Preparatory works will start next Wednesday, November 16, resulting in the temporary closure of the site from that date for up to 24 weeks, during which time residents will be signposted to other recycling facilities.

The investment of almost £1m will enhance the site to include increased capacity for recyclable material, better separation of recyclable materials, improved welfare facilities and a reconfiguration of the site, resulting in a safer experience for the public and staff.

The improvement and modernisation works will also support a reduction in the amount of waste sent to landfill.

Speaking about the works, the Chair of the Council, Councillor Barry McElduff, said: “I am delighted that the works are commencing to improve the facilities at Lisnaskea Household Recycling Centre.

"The Council has a target to increase our recycling rates to 65 per cent by 2035.

"We have made significant progress in that over the past 20 years, and we must continue to build on that in the coming years.

"The Council’s ongoing investment in appropriate facilities helps us to support residents to recycle more and recycle right so we can achieve this target.

"I would encourage all residents to make use of the facilities at their local Recycling Centre to help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, which in turn helps to protect the environment.

"I want to thank our residents for their support over the next few months and reassure them that any short-term disruption during the temporary closure period will result in a vital long-term gain for our district and our wider planet.”

The works are scheduled to take approximately six months and during this time, the site will be closed. Alternative Household Recycling Centres are available at:
