An Enniskillen man has been banned from driving after he was caught by police drink-driving to his girlfriend's house.

At around 2.10am on October 14, police on mobile patrol at the Cornagrade Road, Enniskillen observed a Seat Leon driving in the direction of the Cherrymount roundabout.

The car was stopped and the driver, Duane Beacom (30), with an address of Kimacormick Avenue, Enniskillen was spoken to by police, Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday.

Officers detected a smell of alcohol from the car before Beacom failed a preliminary breath test. He then gave an evidential reading of 96 mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

His solicitor, Myles McManus, accepted it was a high reading and said there was no excuse. He told the court on the night in question, Beacom had been drinking at a local bar before deciding to drive to his girlfriend's house.

Mr. McManus said Beacom had entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity.

District Judge Steven Keown said it was a very high reading, and at the upper tier for sentencing.

Taking into account Beacom's early plea, he handed down a 16-month driving disqualification, and a £200 fine for driving with excess alcohol.
