A man found with £1,000-worth of cocaine in his car has been handed a community service order.

The discovery was made when police were on mobile patrol of the Tempo area on February 18 of this year.

At around 3.10pm they stopped a BMW and spoke to the driver, Marcus Tisdall (29), with an address of Glenview Park, Tempo.

Officers detected a smell of cannabis while speaking to Tisdall before carrying out a search of the car, Enniskillen Magistrates Court heard on Monday.

During this search, a concealed compartment was discovered that contained suspected Class-A and -B drugs.

Tisdall was arrested and interviewed but gave a no-comment interview, the court heard.

The suspected drugs were submitted to Forensic Science NI and it was confirmed the drugs were cocaine, worth approximately £1,000, and cannabis, valued at approximately £470.

Michael Fahy, a solicitor for Tisdall, accepted the charges were serious but said they had been met fairly and with an early guilty plea.

He said Tisdall had admitted he had been abusing drugs in the six months before this incident, but he had not come to attention since the incident in February.

Mr. Fahy also pointed out that Tisdall has accrued debt to feed his "habit" but since then has been "trying to spend his time usefully".

For possession of Class-A and Class-B drugs, Tisdall was ordered to complete 240 hours of community service, with District Judge Steven Keown warning him this was a direct alternative to custody, and if he came before the court again he could go to jail.
