The Boatyard Distillery has recently introduced recyclable eco pouches for its Boatyard Double Gin and Boatyard Vodka – the latest in a range of sustainability initiatives undertaken by the Fermanagh business.

Both products are now available in 2.4L recyclable eco pouches, which are equivalent to four x 70cl bottles and reduce packaging by 84 per cent.

This also reduces carbon emissions to 3.96kg from the equivalent 9.8kg when in bottle format. The Boatyard Distillery has enjoyed substantial growth, with many famed bars and restaurants around the world opting to use Boatyard spirits.

These pouches are very much aimed at these cocktail bars and restaurants, where they will be used to refill empty Boatyard bottles or for batching of cocktails.

The pouches also include Freepost so the empties can be dropped into any Royal Mail post box (no stamp, extra packaging or address required) to send them back to the Boatyard Distillery, where they will be correctly recycled with Terracycle.

Efforts are also being made by the business to eliminate single-use glass bottles in the distillery visitor centre, with a bottle refill programme allowing customers to take their own bottle back to the distillery for refilling at the Eco Refill Station.

Joe McGirr, Boatyard Distillery Chief Executive Officer and founder, said: “Our sustainability plans are constantly improving and we are very proud to have our eco pouches released as part of this exciting journey.”

Declan McGurk, Commercial Director, added: “More and more of our bar and restaurant partners are becoming more sustainably minded and we want to support this.

“We will continue to work with them to eliminate more and more needless waste.”
