Police who stopped a car at a checkpoint were handed a bag of cannabis by the driver after they detected a smell of the drug.

It was heard at Enniskillen Magistrates Court that on September 18 of this year police were conducting an operation when they stopped a Honda driven by Christopher Woods (21), with an address of Trasna Road, Maguiresbridge when they detected the strong smell of cannabis.

They asked Woods if he had any drugs on him which resulted in him taking out a small bag from his pocket with cannabis in it. He said it was for his personal use and was worth about £25.

For possession of a Class B drug Woods was fined £150.

He was also warned that if he came back before the court again for drug related offences he would be dealt with in a different way and that sentencing would escalate.
