A number of local citizens have been named in the New Year's Honours list published tonight.

The annual list recognises the achievements and service of people across the UK, from all walks of life and has once again featured people from Fermanagh and the surrounding areas.

One man who has been awarded an MBE is Patrick Joseph McGurn. Mr. McGurn is the Chief Executive Officer of Lakeland Community Care based in Belcoo and has been recognised for his services to the community in County Fermanagh and Tyrone.

Lakeland Community Care has been to the forefront of providing domiciliary care, day care and flexi-care in rural Fermanagh.

Also in receipt of an MBE is Stephen John Bleakley for services to libraries and to the community in Fermanagh, Omagh and Fivemiletown. Mr. Bleakley is the area manager for Libraries NI.

A well-known businessman from Tyrone was also recognised with an MBE, Mr Peter Anthony McBride who was recognised for services to the economy and to the community in County Tyrone. Mr. McBride operates a number of SPAR shops across Northern Ireland including in Fermanagh.

One of the community stalwarts receiving a BEM is Mr. William Iain Kennedy. Many will know and recognise Mr. Kennedy as the current director of the Aisling Centre and as a coach with Enniskillen Royal Boat Club. An Olympian Mr. Kennedy is being recognised for his voluntary service to the community in County Fermanagh.

Another person recognised is Enniskillen born naturalist Dara Seamus McAnulty, Dara has been recognised for his services to the environment and to people with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The teenager who is now a student at Cambridge University is a best-selling author who has written three books on nature.
