Ballinamallard Crimson Heroes Royal Black Preceptory (RBP) 272 marked a milestone in 2022 when they celebrated 150 years in existence having been formed on February 1, 1872.

To mark this occasion, the Sir Knights commissioned a new banner which was dedicated and unfurled at a ceremony on the July 22, 2022 in Ballinamallard.

The dedication was carried out by Sir Knight Rodney Beacom, County Grand Chaplin, with the unfurling by Sir Knight Harold McCloy, Assistant Sovereign Grand Master. Praise during the service was led by Ballinamallard Silver Band.

Records within the Preceptory show this to be their fourth banner, albeit that the first was initially recorded as a ‘Black Flag’, which at that time cost eight pounds and five shillings, approximately £1,300 in today’s money.

This flag was converted to a banner in 1919 and was used until 1946 when, on February 12, a new banner was unfurled – almost exactly 75 years after formation.

On July 31, 1964 a replacement banner was dedicated and following 58 years of service it has now been retired.

Following the dedication and unfurling, Ballinamallard Accordion Band led the members of 272 accompanied by many visiting Sir Knights through the village prior to returning to the hall for light refreshments.
