An art exhibition by an internationally acclaimed Jewish-Israeli artist was launched in Fermanagh at the weekend.

The Palestinian Paintings by Zohar were on display at Knocks School on Saturday and will be on display for the next six weeks.

This peace-building, cross-border, cross-community, interfaith, bilingual exhibition will be travelling to all 32 Irish counties, promoting good relations amongst our diverse population.

This powerful series of 12 oil paintings about life today in the West Bank and Gaza in Palestine has been touring England, and more recently Ulster, over the past two years.

About 20 people attended the opening day which also had a presentation by Billy Vaughan, a human rights activist who spent a lot of time in Palestine, while poetry was read out by Frank Quinn from his book, Open Gates.

The Chairman of Turas Na nDaoine, Eamon Keenan, said there was a lot of debate at the event around oppression in Palestine.

“More actions in support of and highlighting the Palestinian cause, in Fermanagh and elsewhere, were agreed,” he said.

“A big emphasis by some supporters was put on the BDS campaign against Israeli goods being sold in Ireland.”

Other discussions centred around the support for the Palestinian people and highlighting their daily struggle.
