A police officer accused of having a sexual relationship with a vulnerable woman has had his case transferred to the Crown Court.

Appearing at Enniskillen Magistrates Court on Monday, Timothy Hampton, of unknown age and whose address was given as Enniskillen PSNI Station, was charged with two counts of misconduct in a public office, and a single charge of unauthorised access to computer material.

It is alleged that between June 5, 2021 and September 5, 2021, Hampton engaged in a sexual relationship with a female with whom he came into contact with during the course of his work, and for his own benefit, without reasonable excuse or justification, and knowing she was vulnerable at the time.

Between the same dates, it is further alleged that Hampton failed to notify police of his knowledge of a false report made by this female, and he also encouraged them to make further false reports to police.

And on September 5, 2021, Hampton is also alleged to have gained unauthorised access to computer material.

A Public Prosecution representative told the court that Hampton had a case to answer, which District Judge Alana McSorley agreed with.

Hampton did not wish to say anything in relation to the charges, or to tender any evidence during the hearing.

The case was adjourned to be heard again at Dungannon Crown Court on February 28.
