A Rosslea man has been issued with penalty points and a fine for having no insurance.

Thomas Callaghan (51), with an address of Dernawilt Road, Rosslea, was stopped driving a Volkswagen Golf on July 30, 2022 by police on patrol of the Rosslea area.

They spoke to Callaghan and checks showed there was no insurance policy in place.

Callaghan made full admissions and a fixed penalty notice was issued. However, as he was unable to surrender his documents within the required time he was informed the matter would be dealt with in court.

His solicitor, Myles McManus, said Callaghan had entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity and it was due to "circumstances out of his [Callaghan] control" that he was unable to take up the fixed penalty.

For the no insurance charge, Callaghan was handed six penalty points and a £200 fine.
