Mrs. Kathleen Edwards (87), formerly of Salloon Road, Ballinamallard, passed away peacefully in Omagh hospital on March 3 after a long period of ill health.

Kathleen was born in 1934 to Maude and Noble Watson in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone.

After graduating from High School, she attended Stranmillis Teacher Training College where she met her future husband, Brian.

After graduating, she worked in Dungannon Secondary School as a general subject’s teacher.

Kathleen loved sport, and was a keen badminton and netball player, becoming the school’s netball coach.

She trained in Irish Dancing under Patricia Mulholland, and taught classes in school and the Girls Brigade.

Following her marriage to Brian in July, 1960, she joined the staff in Ballinamallard New Secondary School, where she worked as a general subject’s teacher until the birth of her first son, Colin, in 1967.

She continued working as a substitute teacher in various schools across Tyrone and Fermanagh. She was blessed with two further children – Alan, in 1970, and Janice, in 1972.

Kathleen continued her teaching career in Gibson Primary School Omagh from 1976 until her retirement.

Throughout her life, she was devoted to her faith, regularly attending church and actively involved in the W.I. and M.W.A. She held the Presidential role of the W.I. for two terms of four years.

In her later years, she enjoyed painting, reading, travelling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren and sisters.
