Fermanagh and Omagh District Council has condemned the littering of Forthill Park, Enniskillen after a number of temporary wheelie bins that were placed in the vicinity during a recent Easter event were knocked over.

The temporary wheelie bins were positioned throughout Forthill Park ahead of the Council’s annual Easter Monday Picnic in the Park event on April 10, to support appropriate litter management of any waste arising during the event.

A Council spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, the event litter bins were knocked over after the event, undoing the efforts of the many diligent patrons at the Easter event. The resultant litter was collected by Council staff on April 12.

“Fermanagh and Omagh District Council is committed to a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant District and undertakes an ongoing programme of cleansing to deal with litter, dumping, and fly tipping across the District each year. Whilst our cleansing team does exceptional work keeping the District tidy, it is always greatly appreciated when individuals and communities offer their support to help maintain and improve our District through volunteering.

“To aid the important contribution that our community and volunteers make to keeping our district litter free, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council promotes and supports our Litter Champion Scheme and the Adopt a Spot Programme which enables groups and individuals across Northern Ireland to adopt an area in their locality and look after it.

“The Council is also an official member of Leave No Trace Ireland and is committed to promoting the Leave No Trace Seven Principles to ensure the district is a great place to live, work and visit.”
